If the Senate passes the House Cap & Trade bill, it
will add at least $1,700.00 per year in taxes to each household. This by the administration that promised NOT to raise taxes on the middle class. That's an increase of 15% on personal income taxes. Furthermore, it will have the added effect of tripling the cost of electrical bills for every household as well. That will literally cause millions of homes to go dark...in a very short time.
If the Democratically controlled Congress is stupid enough to do this, they will be tossing this country off the economic cliff. I personally, can't afford to pay either the tax, or the increased cost of electricity as my wife and I can barely afford to pay our bills as it is now. With a massive increase, we'll have to live in the dark...along with millions of others...does the Democratic party have any idea of the abyss they are about to leap into?
In Russia, in 1917, something similar happened while in the midst of the First World War...the government no longer had the ability to deliver food or electricity to the cities...and the country rose up in revolt. I'm terrified that something similar would happen here...if the lights go out for millions of people because they couldn't afford to pay the bill.
If the country avoids erupting into chaos, the
election of 2012 will make this November's tidal wave...look like a ripple in the bay.
The Senate class up for reelection in 2012 is the one elected in 2006, which was a disastrous year for Republicans. If I am not mistaken, there are 23 Democratic seats at stake against only 9 Republicans. Any Democrat who votes for a lame-duck bill like cap-’n'-tax against the public will is almost certain to be challenged and beat about the head and shoulders with that vote, not to mention health care.
In the House, the Democratic survivors will be mostly safe for 2012, having been elected against the tide this year, but the Senators will be facing an electorate which hasn’t had a chance to register its frustration, and many of the Democrats will be freshman Senators – statistically, the most vulnerable of Senate incumbents
As it is...having a lame duck Congress with nothing to lose...politically (this year at least) could prove to be very dangerous...
Now, if eletricity costs much more to buy...won't that make pretty much everything else much more expensive? Yes indeed, it will cause a run of inflation that will raise the costs of everything...and I mean everything...but I don't think those in Congress truly understand the basic economics that are involved here. If it costs more to produce an item, if it costs more to ship and item to market, the producer will pass those costs onto the consumer by inflating the price to cover the cost of the production and shipping...thus things will cost more...simple? Yes it is, but the Democratic leadership in Congress just don't get it. Of course, when you're independently wealthy (as are the vast majority of Congressmen and Senators), it's very easy to be liberal, after all, when your disposable income is 5-10 times the national average higher taxes just don't gouge you as heavily as those who...aren't fortunate to earn as much.
In a weakened economy as ours, purposely piling on new taxes and higher costs is imbecilic at best, and criminally stupid at worst, this bill won't create "green jobs" (look at Spain's idiotic subsidised $800,000.00 cost per "green job"), but it will drive jobs overseas at a much faster rate than is the case now. This bill will kill the economy and drive the country into a true depression...just to satisfy a minute portion of the Democratic base.
