If this is the law of the land...why in a republic (little r) and as republicans, do we allow mere POLITICIANS to the right to use a "title of office" for the rest of their lives as if it were de facto a patent of nobility. Because, as republicans, this should NOT be the case...just saying...

John Lennon: Imagine (rewritten)

Evidently, John Lennon, at the end of his life, was turning away from his former socolistic-communistic political beliefs.  PJM's Tattler that the Toronto Sun has reported that Fred Seaman says that JL was a big fan of Ronald Reagan. From the comments of PJM Tattler:

Imagine

—apologies to John Lennon

Imagine no derision
Towards religious belief
Tolerance for diverse visions
Bolstering joy and soothing grief
Letting each denomination
Find its separate way

Imagine patriotism
And genuine national pride
Helping to heal false schisms
We’re really all one side
Imagine recognition
Of what we have achieved
You may call me a turncoat
But I’m not the only one
I hope like me you’ll wake up
And undo the damage we’ve done

Imagine deregulation
I wonder if you can
No governmental meddling
In people’s private plans
Imagine what we could build
With less bureaucracy

You may call me a turncoat
But I’m not the only one
I hope like me you’ll wake up
And undo the damage we’ve done
Now, contrast this with U2's corporate move to the Netherlands to elude Ireland's much high tax rates...even while Bono lobby's governments to spend more and raise taxes to fight third world poverty.  As rockers become wealthier, they want to hid more of the wealth from the tax man.  But it's their hypocrisy in doing so, while mouthing that "government should do more..." that annoys me.

Bob Hope, USO Tribute

Here's video compilation of Bob Hope, literally all around the world...entertaining US GI's...for not one thin dime.  He did it for free, and often paid the salaries of the supporting casts...there'll never be another like him.  More's the pity on that.  He never asked for publicity for his USO tours, unlike today's celebrities, who demand it "look what I"m doing for the troops..."

Bob Hope, one hell of an American.  My father has a $2 bill signed by Hope, Winston Churchill, Dwight Eisenhower, Geo. Patton and a number of others...whom he flew around during the war.  He died in 1997, and that $2 bill was always in his wallet.

The Fix Is In

The GOP leadership is part of the problem and not part of the solution. That's why the Tea Party movement has grown so quickly.  They just don't seem to get it.  It seems like the charade this week was their "anger" over the deficit ceiling. It looks like the fix is in, and all that is happening is that the GOP will be able to say 'we won'...when America lost.

Over at Big Government.com, Andrew Breitbart's blog that cover's the government, they're reporting that that GOP has rolled on not raising the debt ceiling.  The GOP Leadership keeps on "going along to get along"...and they still are.
Here is a theory that many believe on Capitol Hill. The walk out by Senator Jon Kyl (R-Arizona) and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) from the Vice President’s debt limit negotiations on Thursday was staged and agreed to by both parties as a means for Republicans to look tough before they cave on increasing the debt limit.
Vice President Biden has been meeting behind closed doors with a bipartisan bicameral group of politicians for weeks in an effort to cut a deal on a package to increase the statutory $14.3 trillion debt limit. These meeting have been extremely secretive and not many specifics of the negotiations have been provided to the public. One of the few details leaked was that liberals were putting tax increases on the table as a means to balance the budget.
If this is the case...then the GOP has done it again.  They've FUBAR'd in a way that will hurt the country immesurably.  What we need, isn't to raise the debt ceiling, but a significant roll back of government spending.  When the Demcrats took control, first of Congress in 2007, and then the White House in 2009, the increased federal spending by 40%.

What we need to do, isn't just window dressing spending cuts (which is what we've had this year), that are called "victories" by the GOP leadership, but a return to 2006 spending levels...and then reduce those across the board by 20%.  If we do that, we will see a significant shift in the economy from the wallowing we have now, to serious growth.

We won't see that of course, because the GOP leadership is more intent on "window dressing" than in actually delivering anything that can  shift the course of economic suicide that the Democrats has set us upon...at least until after the 2012 election...but even then, that will be too late for many people.

U6 unemployment is rising steadily (if "unexpectedly"), as will full unemployment.  With the EPA on course to put in place "carbon emission control" by executive-bureaucratic fiat, we'll see a sharp increase in energy prices, especially electricity and gas prices...

The GOP leadership seems intent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory once more.

UPDATE:  From National  Review:  Here's what Kevin Williamson has to say, "How Much Credibility Does The GOP Have On Taxes"
I don’t want taxes or spending at 21.3 percent of GDP. I don’t want them at 18.5 percent, for that matter. I might go for spending at 14.2 percent and taxes at 16.1 percent as a good start, which would take us to the savage Darwinian conditions of . . . 1951, not exactly the Dark Ages or a time of notable national austerity. As I hear it, 1951 was a pretty good year. From 1950 to 1955, our average real GDP growth exceeded that magic 5 percent threshold that Tim Pawlenty and Larry Kudlow and the optimists are talking about, and that includes a little recession in 1954. (Granted, there are excellent reasons to believe that the postwar boom is not easily replicable. Here’s one. Here’s another. And one more. Not a unicorn in the bunch.)
But here’s the thing: If you want spend 21 percent, you really need to tax 21 percent. If you want to tax only 18.5 percent, you can only spend 18.5 percent. So far, Republicans have been pretty insistent about taxes, and not without reason (this probably is not the optimum moment to announce a large tax increase). But if you are not willing to move one variable, then you have to show yourself willing and able to move the other variable far enough to bring things into balance. The Republicans have been moving in the right direction, but they aren’t quite there. You want to take taxes off the table, then show me you can get the job done with cuts alone — not on paper, but in Congress.

Why haven’t I mentioned the Democrats? They control the Senate and the White House, holding a far stronger hand than do the Republicans. The reason is that the Democrats are a lost cause. Their commitment to maintaining the current path of entitlement spending and public-sector expansion will ensure national bankruptcy at virtually any level of taxation. (Don’t believe me? Have a gander at what a $30 trillion deficit looks like.) Removing Democrats from power probably is a precondition for averting a national fiscal meltdown. A necessary condition, but not a sufficient one.
The emphasis above is mine, not Kevin's.  He makes a good point.  If you want to spend level X, then you have to tax at level Y...or you spend your grand children's money...which we've been doing for 70 years.  When the Soviet Union did that...they went the way of the dinosaurs....maybe it's our turn to collapse as a nation.  That's not out of the question until we get spending into the realm of sanity.

Jason C in the comments has this to say...and he does make some excellent points:
Here is the problem with base year comparisons - we don't have the population structure we had in 1999, let alone in 1951.

In 1999, payroll contributions covered 80% of federal transfer payments for the big entitlements - social security, medicare, and medicaid. Payroll taxes brought in 7% of GPD and spending was 8.75% of GDP. Already out of balance, and accounting for most of the persistent deficit, but still in some reasonable relation to each other.

In 2010, payroll contributions covered only 63% of those transfers. Contributions brought in only 6.7% of GDP - down in yield, not up. Spending on them meanwhile ran %10.6% of GDP. There is a 4% of GDP structural gap between payroll contributions and transfer expenditures -and no it isn't being funded out of general revenue - there isn't any. It is all being borrowed.

Demographics push the federal government 0.2% of GDP further into the red every year. Every decade, government spending takes 2% more of GDP and payroll contributions bring in a marginally smaller share - because a smaller portion of the population are of working age, and a larger portion are in the receiving age categories, and are living longer and costing more each.

Similarly, all the means tested programs grow like topsy as people learn to get on them, regardless of economic growth or anything else. There are 50% more people on medicaid today than in 1999, for example. SSI today is as big as medicaid was then. Etc.

Just to balance this portion of the federal fiscal train wreck would require an immediate 58% increase in payroll taxes. Counting employer side, that would be a jump from 18.3% of gross pay to 29% - which amounts to a 13% fall in after tax payroll kept.

This would still leave the 0.2% demographic headwind; it only makes up for the past headwind not faced squarely or paid for. To deal with that remaining headwind, payroll tax *rates* would have to continue to climb by about 2% per year. This would consume essentially the entire increase in real wages we can expect from future productivity increases.

In other words, present Americans would need to drop their standard of living by about an eighth and sign away all future real increases in their income, to keep the present (frankly, certifiable) promises to give everyone a lavish retirement and free healthcare - which we have not remotely paid for.

We ought to offer the American people a clear choice between that path and Ryan's alternative. The present "let's pretend" path of borrowing huge shortfalls to cover the difference between what payroll taxes are collecting and what we are giving away on middle class entitlements, is not an option. It leads straight to national bankruptcy
Just take a look at the Greeks, they've had their 12 or 13th bailout, and are STILL going to founder, economically.  (follow the link and "read the whole thing.")

No one will be bailing us out...keep that in mind.

A View From Alaska

I'd heard about this blog post, but never took the time to run it down.  I finally did and I'm glad I took the time.  What's really a shame is that the McCain Campaign in 2008 didn't give more publicity to Mrs. Palin during the last 2 months prior to the election.  That gave the media time to create a narrative (see JournoList to see just how much they collaborated).  Here's a view of Mrs. Palin by one of her constituents.  Here's the only link I could find.  Mr. Whetsel's blog is no longer active...but here's a  link to a facebook page
"The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, its about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.
1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governors office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republicans Corrupt Bastards Club (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits. The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing la la la la (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you're thinking, I'll continue.
2- Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So, she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called ACES. Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out. They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.
3- The other thing she did when she walked into the governors office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as pork. She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the when-hell-freezes-over stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, well pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governors jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning, I imagine, that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.
4- Now, even with her much-ridiculed gosh and golly mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5- For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. This summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.
6- President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona . Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that’s just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won’t be holding my breath.
By the way, she was content to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

Dewey Whetsell
It's a shame that the GOP allowed the liberal MSM to control the message-image of Mrs. Palin, that's yet another thing about the GOP that I'll not soon forgive.

I think Uncle Jay does a great job in teaching us about Congressional Recesses.  This is especially important as we head toward July 4th.

The Shadow Man...

Some interesting questions sent my Linda a regular reader from CA. I have added/edited it into paragraphs ans sticken some things I thought were silly:
This came from a union guy in Chicago who didn't vote for Obama. Very, very interesting perspective that I never thought of in this light. It will be interesting to see what they put in his "Presidential Library" {portion removed} about his early years when he is out of office.

In a country where we take notice of many, many facets of our public figures' lives, doesn't seem odd that there's so little we know about our current president, Barack Obama. For example, we know that Andrew Jackson's wife smoked a corn cob pipe and was accused of adultery; Abe Lincoln never went to school; Jack Kennedy wore a back brace; Harry Truman played the piano. As Americans, we enjoy knowing details about our newsmakers, but none of us know one single humanizing fact about the history of our own president.

We are all aware of the lack of uncontestable birth records for Obama; that document managing has been spectacularly successful. There are however, several additional oddities in Obama's history that appear to be as well managed as the birthing issue. It's interesting that no one who ever dated him has shown up. The charisma that caused women to be drawn to him so strongly during his campaign, certainly would in the normal course of events, lead some lady to come forward, if only to garner some attention for herself.

We all know about JFK's magnetism, that McCain was no monk and quite a few Details about Palin's courtship and even her athletic prowess Joe Biden's aneurisms are no secret; look at Cheney and Clinton, we all know about their heart problems.. Certainly Wild Bill Clinton's exploits before and during his White House years, were well known. That's why it's so odd that not one lady has stepped up and said, "He was soooo shy..." or "What a great dancer..." It's virtually impossible to know anything about this fellow.

Who was the best man at his wedding? Start there. Then check groomsmen. Then get the footage of the graduation ceremony. Has anyone talked to the professors? It is odd that no one is bragging that they knew him or taught him or lived with him. When did he meet Michele,, and how? Are there photos there?

Every president gives to the public all their photos, etc. for their library, etc. What has he released? And who in hell voted for him to be the most popular man in 2010? Doesn't this make you wonder? Ever wonder why no one ever came forward from President Obama's past saying they knew him, attended school with him, was his friend, etc?? Not one person has ever come forward from his past. It certainly is very, very strange... This should be a cause for great concern. To those who voted for him, you may have elected an unqualified, inexperienced shadow man.

Have you seen a movie named "The Manchurian Candidate" As insignificant as each of us might be, someone with whom we went to school will remember our name or face; someone will remember we were the clown or the dork or the brain or the quiet one or the bully or something about us.

George Stephanopoulos of ABC News said the same thing during the 2008 campaign. He questions why no one has acknowledged the president was in their classroom or ate in the same cafeteria or made impromptu speeches on campus. Stephanopoulos also was a classmate of Obama at Columbia the class of 1984. He says he never had a single class with him.. He is such a great orator; why doesn't anyone in Obama's college class remember him? Why won't he allow Columbia to release his records? Nobody remembers Obama at Columbia University ...

Looking for evidence of Obama's past, Fox News contacted 400 Columbia University students from the period when Obama claims to have been there... but none remembered him. Wayne Allyn Root was, like Obama, a political science major at Columbia who also graduated in 1983.

In 2008, Root says of Obama, "I don't know a single person at Columbia that knew him, and they all know me. I don't have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia , ever." Nobody recalls him. Root adds that he was also, like Obama, Class of '83 Political Science, and says, "You don't get more exact or closer than that. Never met him in my life, don't know anyone who ever met him. At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me. No one ever heard of Barack!

And five years ago, nobody even knew who he was. The guy who writes the class notes, who's kind of the, as we say in New York, 'the macha' who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him." Obama's photograph does not appear in the school's yearbook and Obama consistently declines requests to talk about his years at Columbia , provide school records, or provide the name of any former classmates or friends while at Columbia . Some other interesting questions..

Why was Obama's law license inactivated in 2002? Why was Michelle's law license inactivated by court order? It is circulating that according to the U.S. Census, there is only one Barack Obama but 27 Social Security numbers and over 80 alias. The Social Security number he uses now originated in Connecticut where he is never reported to have lived. No wonder all his records are sealed... Please continue sending this out to everyone. Somewhere, someone had to know him in school...before he "reorganized" Chicago & burst upon the scene at the 2004 Democratic Convention.
I've always wondered why no one has come forward to talk about how he was and who he was in high school and college.

Montana Legislature: Fed's Reneg On Statehood Agreement

The legislature of Montana has passed a law stating that the Federal Government doesn't have the right to regulate Intrastate commerce....

The dispute is over the Montana Firearms Freedom Act, which was adopted by lawmakers and signed into law by the governor in the state. It specifies that weapons and ammunition made, sold and kept in the state are exempt from federal licensing and other regulations.

The federal government is arguing that the Commerce Clause allows federal agencies to impose any requirement they choose on those weapons, and the dispute is pending at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals now.

As part of those arguments a long list of states, individuals and organizations have filed amicus briefs with the appellate court, and one, from the Weapons Collectors Society in Montana points out that Montana became a state in the union under a legal compact, and at the time, "It was the understanding of the parties that the United States Constitution would not be construed by the federal government to deny or disparage the rights reserved by the people of Montana and by the State, including the right to regulate and engage in the intrastate manufacture and sale of guns and ammunition.
According to the 10th Amendment, the federal government doesn't have the right to regulate commerce that occurs purely within a state's borders.  Of course the Fed's are arguing otherwise.

"Congress' commerce powers are broad; however, such powers are not unlimited," the brief explained. "The Commerce Clause itself imposes constraints on Congress' authority to regulate wholly intrastate activities. The MFFA is a law that allows Montana to regulate exclusively what the United States Supreme Court … would describe as a 'local matter' – firearm production and trade conducted within Montana's borders," the brief argues.
Thus, it's not within the purview of the federal government, and therefore, not within the realm of Congress' legislative responsibility.

Study Of Economic Reporting: Democrats Favored

Here's a study of economic reporting and the purported bias showed by the top 10 newspapers and AP.  Here's the conclusion:
Our results suggest that newspapers do not treat all news the same. Given the same news, Republican presidents receive about 20 to 30 percent less positive coverage from all newspapers and 20 to 40 percent less positive coverage from the top 10 papers than was provided on average for Democrats and these results are quite statistically significant. This partisan bias is associated with about a seven to nine percent increase in respondents viewing the economy as getting better. Overall, the headlines affect people’s perception of the economy and, for at least some people, the impact does not appear to be offset by other news sources.

However, newspapers don’t treat all economic statistics treated the same way nor do all newspapers have the same partisan gap, but the vast majority of newspapers cover any given economic news more favorably under Democrats. Only one newspaper treated one Republican administration significantly more positively than the Clinton administration: the Los Angeles Times’ headlines were most favorable to the Reagan administration, but it still favored Clinton over either Bush administration. When combined with how the Houston Chronicle treated both the two Bush administrations, there is at least a possibility that Republican presidents receive at least some home state backing.

There is some modest support for the hypothesis that newspapers find it more difficult to negatively report on Republicans when Republicans control both the presidency and the congress, but even when Republicans control both branches the implied effect is that they still receive less positive coverage than Democrats. Despite the common perception, newspapers actually provide more coverage when the news is good and at least the top 10 papers are not monolithic in their biases. More durable goods, GDP growth, retail sales and jobs and less unemployment all produce more positive news coverage.

We have tried to account for various factors that could explain the partisan gap in headlines, but variables measuring whether Republicans control the presidency or congress or even the different administrations could reflect other things that are not directly measured by our regressors, including “bias.” It is not obvious what these other factors are, but this is possible just as a lot of black-white, male-female differences can reflect factors other than race or gender.

While we have provided some information on the incentives that the media has to cover political parties differently based upon how much of the government they control, the central question that remains: why does this partisan gap in news coverage persists over the fourteen years examined here? Others have started offering different theoretical explanations (e.g., Baron, 2004; Bovtiz, et. al., 2002), though there are still questions about why customers might prefer biased information.
So, does anyone else know of a study that has similar results?  Just from reading coverage on a daily, weekly and yearly basis over the past 40 years, I've noticed that journalists (and the JournoList) have a sharp tendency to play down success of Republican administrations, while at the same time, playing down the seriousness of a Democratic administration's misteps...the current mess is an excellent example.

Daily Show: Blacklisting Conservative Pundits

Jon Stewart of the "Daily Show" is such a brave "JournoList" that he refuses to book conservative pundits on his show.  This is called "blacklisting."  While Mr. Stewart is certainly allowed to book  whoever he wants to on his show, he should fess up and admit that he's afraid to book conservatives on his show.    Adrew Klavan's say's,
Over at Breitbart’s Big Hollywood, 23-year-old comedian Steven Crowder has been outlining an appalling show business story.
According to Crowder—my sometime colleague at PJTV—his manager submitted his work to some producers at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. One senior producer wrote to the manager to say, “Steven is definitely a talented guy,” but “we never book conservative pundits.” Crowder then made one of his weekly YouTube videos in which he displayed the letter and discussed the incident. Mostly, he did this by way of promoting his friend Benjamin Shapiro’s new book Primetime Propaganda which, aptly enough, exposes TV’s tacit blacklist of conservatives.
At this point, according to the next Crowder video, the Daily Show producer who wrote the letter went ballistic at being publicly exposed as a political blacklister. She furiously phoned Crowder’s manager and upbraided him for showing Crowder her letter. The reaming was so bad, Crowder’s manager, feeling he had to protect his business and his other clients, dumped Crowder. (I emailed the manager requesting an interview and received an away message. Crowder asked me not to contact The Daily Show, but if they want to tell their side of the story, they can reach me here.)
Now of course there’s nothing surprising about any of this. We know that leftists mistake their politics for virtue. They think that voting for Democrats somehow makes them good people, and that they are therefore justified in treating anyone who disagrees with them like trash. We know that, whereas conservatives love nothing better than to argue things out with their opponents, leftists want only to shut them up—and they do this by blacklisting them, slandering them as bigots and, wherever the First Amendment isn’t around to stop them, legislating them into silence through “hate speech” laws and “Fairness Acts” and the like.
Read the whole damn thing!

Hhhhhmmm...

If any other of our presidents had doubled the National Debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would You have Approved?

If any other of our presidents had then proposed to Double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had criticized a State Law that he admitted he never even read, would you think that he is just an ignorant hot Head?

If any other of our presidents joined the country of Mexico and sued a State in the United States to force that State to continue to allow Illegal Immigration, would you question his patriotism and wonder who's side he was on?

If any other of our presidents had pronounced the Marine Corps as if it were the Marine Corpse, would you think him an Idiot?

If any other of our presidents had put 87,000 workers out of work by arbitrarily placing a moratorium on offshore oil drilling on companies that have one of the best safety records of any industry because one foreign company had an accident, would you have agreed?

If any other of our presidents had used a forged document as the basis of the moratorium that would render 87000 American workers unemployed, would you support him?

If any other of our presidents had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If any other of our presidents had spent hundreds of thousands of Dollars to take his First Lady to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had reduced your retirement plan holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had given the Queen of England an IPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought it to be a proud moment for America ?

If any other of our presidents had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had visited Austria and made reference to the nonexistent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If any other of our presidents had filled his Cabinet and circle of Advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their Income Taxes, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had stated that there were 57 states in the United States , wouldn't you have had second thoughts about his capabilities?

If any other of our presidents would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in his home town, would you not have thought he was a self-important, conceited, egotistical jerk?

If any other of our presidents had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was "The 5th of May" (Cinco de Mayo), and then continue to flub it when he tried again, wouldn't you have winced in embarrassment?
If any other of our presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a Hypocrite?
If any other of our presidents' Administrations had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?
If any other of our presidents had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest, with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing Political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?
If any other of our presidents had created the positions of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America, would you have approved?

If any other of our presidents had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Then you'd better start worrying. He's done all these things in 28 months -- and you have less than 19 months to come up with an answer.

Every statement and action in this email is factual and correctly attributable to Barrack Hussein Obama. Every bumble is a matter of record and completely verifiable.

May Day 2011: SEIU drops mask, goes full commie

Have you ever wondered just how much trough our country really is in?  Will it be possible to roll back the power and scope of government?  Are we free?

Be sure to see the quote at the end.....

A May Day rally in Los Angeles , co-sponsored  by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.

Southern California citizen journalist and photographer “Ringo” was on hand to record the day’s events, and posted a full-length photo essay on his site Ringo’s Pictures. To bring this important photo essay to a wider audience, I present here a small selection of Ringo’s May Day pictures; visit his site  to see dozens more photos from the rally.

When I tell people that public political rallies are more and more being led by communists and socialists, most folks simply don’t believe me. Aw, come on, you’re just giving decent protesters an extreme label, they say. No, actually, I’m not: The communists freely and proudly declare their affiliation.

And the SEIU has no problem marching arm-in-arm with them.

“Smash Capitalism” is a slogan the SEIU apparently endorses — or at least doesn’t mind marching behind.

In case you think the SEIU is some peripheral out-of-the-mainstream organization:

The SEIU devoted $28 million to Obama’s campaign , making the SEIU “the organization that spent the most to help Barack Obama get elected president .” Furthermore, who is Obama’s favorite White House guest and one of his closest confidants?

The individual who has visited the Obama White House the most: SEIU President Andy Stern, who has visited 53 times. Obama is closely linked with the SEIU.  The SEIU is closely linked with communists.  You do the math.

Did I say communists? Sorry, I meant Communists (with a capital “C”).

Note how the Communists that day (like the women on the right in this photo) carried solid red flags symbolizing their ideology. Keep that in mind as you view the next photo…

One of the SEIU leaders picked up a Communist flag and led a contingent of rank-and-file SEIU members. Everyone was OK with that.

SEIU members in all these pictures are the ones in purple t-shirts carrying blue-and-yellow signs.

So, as you can see, the Communists and the union members intermingled as the march progressed. In case you were wondering what the SEIU was saying during all of this, here’s a video of the SEIU chanting “Legalization or REVOLUTION!” Clear enough? No video transferred.

And it wasn’t just the SEIU at the march — other “normal” unions like the AFL-CIO were on hand as well.

There were plenty of teachers’ unions attending too, and they brought along many of their public school students for some good old-fashioned Communist indoctrination, as this video shows.

Most of the idiots in the US who walk around with Che buttons or Che shirts do so because they foolishly think he’s “cool.” These hardcore Communists carry his image not because he’s “cool,” but because he was one of the most radical revolutionaries who ever lived. Right up there with Lenin, apparently.

In order to have a more “civil dialogue” with their political opponents, the marchers made a puppet of a demonic Statue of Liberty aligned with the “Tea Bag Party.”
OK, I guess Hitler comparisons are off the table for now — too many people have called it taboo. So what’s second best? The Devil!

Tell me the honest truth: If the Tea Party had marched in a rally behind a banner held up by fascists or neo-Nazis, don’t you think it would have been national news? But the nation’s biggest Obama-supporting political organization marched behind banners like these, and not a peep about it in the media. Hmmmm….

Until recently, the average American has regarded fascists and communists as equally noxious and equally malignant. As well they should have. But the drive these days by the left side of the spectrum is to make communism and socialism somewhat less remarkable and more palatable. For two years they angrily denied the Tea Party accusation that Obama’s policies and supporters had a socialist bent. But in recent months, as the accusation had started to gain traction, the new leftist tactic has become: “What’s so bad about socialism after all? You’re demonizing a very popular and respectable ideology!”
“Imposin’ crime”??? That’s an interesting spin I’d never seen before: “Hey America , it’s your fault we’re criminals!”

The never-ending quest to become king-of-the-hill in the victimology sweepstakes. The higher your victimhood status, the more politically successful you will be!

UPDATE:  In case you aren’t quite aware of just how close our current president is to the SEIU, here’s Barack Obama speaking at an SEIU rally on January 15, 2008:

Barack Obama: “Everybody: There’s not a presidential candidate, a gubernatorial candidate, a congressional candidate, who won’t tell ya, that they’re pro-union, when they’re looking for their endorsements. They’ll all say, ‘Oh we love SEIU.’ But the question you gotta ask yourself is, do they have it in their gut, do they have a track record of standing alongside you on picket lines? Do they have a track record of going after the companies that aren’t letting you organize? Do they have a track record of voting the right way? But also helping you organize to build more and more power?

And some of you know I come from an organizing background, so — I’ve been working with the SEIU before I was elected to anything. When I was a community organizer, SEIU Local 880 and myself we organized people, to make sure that healthcare workers had basic rights; we organized voter registration drives, that’s how we built political power on the South Side of Chicago….and now the time has come for us to do it all across this country, and then we’ll paint the nation purple, with SEIU!

I would not be a United States Senator had it not been for the support of your brothers and sisters in Illinois . Those folks, they supported me early, they supported me often. I’ve got my purple windbreaker from my campaign in 2004.

And so, we’ve just got, what, four more days? Four more days of knocking on some doors. Four more days of working the precinct. Four more days of making sure all your co-workers are caucusing.

SEIU, I am glad you are with me, let’s together change the country! SEIU! SEIU! SEIU! SEIU! SEIU!”
I strongly suspect that if the Tea Party movement fails in its attempt to greatly reduce government intrusion into our daily lives, that we will eventually become a totalitarian state along the lines of the now defunct Soviet Union or People's Republic of China.  Socialism is a failed ideology.  Just look at the serious problems facing Europe today.  Half the member states are in a down-ward economic spiral, and the other half are frozen in statist gridlock.  We are now on the edge of the precipice...and only serious action by each and every one of us will pull our country back from the edge.

FEDERALIST No. 23

The Necessity of a Government as Energetic as the One Proposed to the Preservation of the Union

From the New York Packet.
Tuesday, December 18, 1787.

Alexander Hamilton

To the People of the State of New York:

THE necessity of a Constitution, at least equally energetic with the one proposed, to the preservation of the Union, is the point at the examination of which we are now arrived.

This inquiry will naturally divide itself into three branches the objects to be provided for by the federal government, the quantity of power necessary to the accomplishment of those objects, the persons upon whom that power ought to operate. Its distribution and organization will more properly claim our attention under the succeeding head.

The principal purposes to be answered by union are these the common defense of the members; the preservation of the public peace as well against internal convulsions as external attacks; the regulation of commerce with other nations and between the States; the superintendence of our intercourse, political and commercial, with foreign countries.

The authorities essential to the common defense are these: to raise armies; to build and equip fleets; to prescribe rules for the government of both; to direct their operations; to provide for their support. These powers ought to exist without limitation, BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FORESEE OR DEFINE THE EXTENT AND VARIETY OF NATIONAL EXIGENCIES, OR THE CORRESPONDENT EXTENT AND VARIETY OF THE MEANS WHICH MAY BE NECESSARY TO SATISFY THEM. The circumstances that endanger the safety of nations are infinite, and for this reason no constitutional shackles can wisely be imposed on the power to which the care of it is committed. This power ought to be coextensive with all the possible combinations of such circumstances; and ought to be under the direction of the same councils which are appointed to preside over the common defense.

This is one of those truths which, to a correct and unprejudiced mind, carries its own evidence along with it; and may be obscured, but cannot be made plainer by argument or reasoning. It rests upon axioms as simple as they are universal; the MEANS ought to be proportioned to the END; the persons, from whose agency the attainment of any END is expected, ought to possess the MEANS by which it is to be attained.

Whether there ought to be a federal government intrusted with the care of the common defense, is a question in the first instance, open for discussion; but the moment it is decided in the affirmative, it will follow, that that government ought to be clothed with all the powers requisite to complete execution of its trust. And unless it can be shown that the circumstances which may affect the public safety are reducible within certain determinate limits; unless the contrary of this position can be fairly and rationally disputed, it must be admitted, as a necessary consequence, that there can be no limitation of that authority which is to provide for the defense and protection of the community, in any matter essential to its efficacy that is, in any matter essential to the FORMATION, DIRECTION, or SUPPORT of the NATIONAL FORCES.

Defective as the present Confederation has been proved to be, this principle appears to have been fully recognized by the framers of it; though they have not made proper or adequate provision for its exercise. Congress have an unlimited discretion to make requisitions of men and money; to govern the army and navy; to direct their operations. As their requisitions are made constitutionally binding upon the States, who are in fact under the most solemn obligations to furnish the supplies required of them, the intention evidently was that the United States should command whatever resources were by them judged requisite to the "common defense and general welfare." It was presumed that a sense of their true interests, and a regard to the dictates of good faith, would be found sufficient pledges for the punctual performance of the duty of the members to the federal head.
The experiment has, however, demonstrated that this expectation was ill-founded and illusory; and the observations, made under the last head, will, I imagine, have sufficed to convince the impartial and discerning, that there is an absolute necessity for an entire change in the first principles of the system; that if we are in earnest about giving the Union energy and duration, we must abandon the vain project of legislating upon the States in their collective capacities; we must extend the laws of the federal government to the individual citizens of America; we must discard the fallacious scheme of quotas and requisitions, as equally impracticable and unjust. The result from all this is that the Union ought to be invested with full power to levy troops; to build and equip fleets; and to raise the revenues which will be required for the formation and support of an army and navy, in the customary and ordinary modes practiced in other governments.

If the circumstances of our country are such as to demand a compound instead of a simple, a confederate instead of a sole, government, the essential point which will remain to be adjusted will be to discriminate the OBJECTS, as far as it can be done, which shall appertain to the different provinces or departments of power; allowing to each the most ample authority for fulfilling the objects committed to its charge. Shall the Union be constituted the guardian of the common safety? Are fleets and armies and revenues necessary to this purpose? The government of the Union must be empowered to pass all laws, and to make all regulations which have relation to them. The same must be the case in respect to commerce, and to every other matter to which its jurisdiction is permitted to extend. Is the administration of justice between the citizens of the same State the proper department of the local governments? These must possess all the authorities which are connected with this object, and with every other that may be allotted to their particular cognizance and direction. Not to confer in each case a degree of power commensurate to the end, would be to violate the most obvious rules of prudence and propriety, and improvidently to trust the great interests of the nation to hands which are disabled from managing them with vigor and success.
Who is likely to make suitable provisions for the public defense, as that body to which the guardianship of the public safety is confided; which, as the centre of information, will best understand the extent and urgency of the dangers that threaten; as the representative of the WHOLE, will feel itself most deeply interested in the preservation of every part; which, from the responsibility implied in the duty assigned to it, will be most sensibly impressed with the necessity of proper exertions; and which, by the extension of its authority throughout the States, can alone establish uniformity and concert in the plans and measures by which the common safety is to be secured? Is there not a manifest inconsistency in devolving upon the federal government the care of the general defense, and leaving in the State governments the EFFECTIVE powers by which it is to be provided for? Is not a want of co-operation the infallible consequence of such a system? And will not weakness, disorder, an undue distribution of the burdens and calamities of war, an unnecessary and intolerable increase of expense, be its natural and inevitable concomitants? Have we not had unequivocal experience of its effects in the course of the revolution which we have just accomplished?
Every view we may take of the subject, as candid inquirers after truth, will serve to convince us, that it is both unwise and dangerous to deny the federal government an unconfined authority, as to all those objects which are intrusted to its management. It will indeed deserve the most vigilant and careful attention of the people, to see that it be modeled in such a manner as to admit of its being safely vested with the requisite powers. If any plan which has been, or may be, offered to our consideration, should not, upon a dispassionate inspection, be found to answer this description, it ought to be rejected. A government, the constitution of which renders it unfit to be trusted with all the powers which a free people OUGHT TO DELEGATE TO ANY GOVERNMENT, would be an unsafe and improper depositary of the NATIONAL INTERESTS. Wherever THESE can with propriety be confided, the coincident powers may safely accompany them. This is the true result of all just reasoning upon the subject. And the adversaries of the plan promulgated by the convention ought to have confined themselves to showing, that the internal structure of the proposed government was such as to render it unworthy of the confidence of the people. They ought not to have wandered into inflammatory declamations and unmeaning cavils about the extent of the powers. The POWERS are not too extensive for the OBJECTS of federal administration, or, in other words, for the management of our NATIONAL INTERESTS; nor can any satisfactory argument be framed to show that they are chargeable with such an excess. If it be true, as has been insinuated by some of the writers on the other side, that the difficulty arises from the nature of the thing, and that the extent of the country will not permit us to form a government in which such ample powers can safely be reposed, it would prove that we ought to contract our views, and resort to the expedient of separate confederacies, which will move within more practicable spheres. For the absurdity must continually stare us in the face of confiding to a government the direction of the most essential national interests, without daring to trust it to the authorities which are indispensible to their proper and efficient management. Let us not attempt to reconcile contradictions, but firmly embrace a rational alternative.
I trust, however, that the impracticability of one general system cannot be shown. I am greatly mistaken, if any thing of weight has yet been advanced of this tendency; and I flatter myself, that the observations which have been made in the course of these papers have served to place the reverse of that position in as clear a light as any matter still in the womb of time and experience can be susceptible of. This, at all events, must be evident, that the very difficulty itself, drawn from the extent of the country, is the strongest argument in favor of an energetic government; for any other can certainly never preserve the Union of so large an empire. If we embrace the tenets of those who oppose the adoption of the proposed Constitution, as the standard of our political creed, we cannot fail to verify the gloomy doctrines which predict the impracticability of a national system pervading entire limits of the present Confederacy.

To Whom Does The Land of Israel Belong?

I've seen this around the web.  Not sure who wrote it...
An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations assembly, and made the world community smile.  A representative from Israel began,"Before beginning my talk, I want to tell you something about Moses . . .

When he struck the rock, and it brought forth water, he thought, "What a good opportunity to have a bath!" Moses removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock, and entered the water.  When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. A Palestinian had stolen them!

The Palestinian representative at the UN jumped up furiously, and shouted, "What are you talking about? The Palestinians weren't there then."

The Israeli representative smiled and said, "And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech . . . "

The Candy With The Little Hole

From JP:

This should make you smile. You have to love little kids. The children began to identify the flavors by their color:

Red.....................Cherry
Yellow..................Lemon
Green...................Lime
Orange ...............Orange

Finally the teacher gave them all HONEY lifesavers. None of the children could identify the taste. The teacher said, 'I will give you all a clue. It's what your mother may sometimes call your father.'

One little girl looked up in horror, spit her lifesaver out and yelled, 'Oh my God. They're ass-holes

The teacher had to leave the room

From Tammy via "The Cable Guy
":"Even after the Super Bowl victory by the New Orleans Saints, I have noticed a large number of people implying with bad jokes that Cajuns aren't smart. I would like to state for the record that I disagree with that assessment. Anybody who would build a city 5 feet below sea level in a hurricane zone and fill it with Democrats is a damn genius".
What?  You expect me to top that?

Sarah Smarty

Via AOL Weird News:
Sarah Palin's critics routinely mock her intellect, so when the state of Alaska released 24,000 emails she wrote while serving as governor, "AOL Weird News," an offbeat component of AOL.com, had a representative sample analyzed to see how well she wrote. They expected the results to confirm their anti-Palin bias, but they were in for a surprise
Far from being an illiterate bumpkin, the standard Flesch-Kincaid readability test showed that Ms. Palin's emails were written at an 8.5 grade level. This was "an excellent score for a chief executive," AOLWN reported. To put some perspective on this number, Martin Luther King's August 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech -- much more heavily edited than Ms. Palin's emails -- ranked at 8.8 on the same scale, while Lincoln's Gettysburg Address came in at 9.1.
A study by Smart Politics on the readability ratings of recent State of the Union addresses also showed Ms. Palin in good company. President George H.W. Bush's average SOTU score was 8.6. Bill Clinton came in at 9.5. Ronald Reagan, who like Ms. Palin was heavily criticized by liberals and regarded as a doddering old fool, logged an impressive 10.3 rating. And George W. Bush, who earned even more left-wing contempt than Mr. Reagan, if that's possible, edged the Great Communicator with a10.4 ranking.
Then there is President Obama, heralded as the smartest president and the most gifted orator in living memory, but whose 2008 "Yes we can!" victory speech came in at a comparatively anemic Flesch-Kincaid rating of 7.4. Some numbers just speak for themselves.
Hard to argue with AOL...after all, they do have a liberal bias...

Maryland Shuts Down Lemonaide Stand @ US Open

The US Open is being held here in Maryland this year.  But, as a hugely blue nanny state, where "government always knows best" how to care for us, a child's Lemonaide Stand was closed by the county health department and fined $500.00.  With all the probblems facing us today, a lemonaide stand is the least of our worries, unless of course you're a liberal, then a child's attempt at free enterprise is a public threat.
