Public Doesn't Trust Politicians to Make Budget Cuts

Rasmussen Reports polling shows that a large majority of Americans don't believe that politicians of either party has the stones to make the necessary cuts in spending to place the nation on a path to sound financial footing.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 70% of Likely U.S. Voters think voters are more willing to make the hard choices needed to reduce federal spending than elected politicians are. Just 17% say the politicians are more willing to make the tough spending cut decisions, while 13% more are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here).


The Political Class disagrees, however. Sixty percent (60%) of Political Class voters say elected politicians are more willing to make hard budget cutting choices, but 79% of those in the Mainstream feel otherwise and see voters as more willing to do it.

 Oddly enough...our political "elite" also think the country is heading in the right direction...while a vast majority thinks just the opposite.

Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 67% of Political Class voters believe the United States is generally heading in the right direction. However, things look a lot different to Mainstream Americans. Among these voters, 84% say the country has gotten off on the wrong track.

 Of course...most of them have highly lucrative elective or lobbying positions, so they're perfectly happy...as long as the money lasts, which won't be a whole lot longer.

Border Fence: 68% Voters Support It, 67% Political Class Oppose it...

Rasmussen Reports new poll on illegal immigration shows that 68% of likely voters support the continued building of a secure border barrier along the Mexican border.  Just as predictably, while more than 3/4ths voters (76%)  want Congress to build a secure border, only 67% of the "political class" (our ostensible rulers) oppose just such a barrier...and just a predictably, CBS News, is reporting that there is no violence along the border.  They soft soap report below shows.  This is what our political elite believes, yet, voters are strongly opposed.  This is yet another example of the "political elite" flouting the will of the people.



However, a large majority of voters are opposed the the DoJ's lawsuit against Arizona's recent law requiring police to check the immigration status of those they arrest for other crimes.

Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters nationwide oppose the Justice Department’s decision to challenge the Arizona law, and 61% favor passage of a law like Arizona’s in their own state.


Fifty-four percent (54%) say the Justice Department instead should take legal action against cities that provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Even more think the federal government should cut off funds to these “sanctuary cities.”

Most voters ages 40 and older say it is possible for the United States to end illegal immigration. Republicans by better than two-to-one are more confident than Democrats that it’s possible. Voters not affiliated with either party are more closely divided on the question.

Most members of the Political Class, however, say it can’t be done. Fifty-six percent (56%) of Mainstream voters say it is possible to stop illegal immigration, but 58% of the Political Class disagree.

But, here's the money statistic, and this is how highly Congress, and our political leadership are held on this as well as many other matters: 

Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters say the Political Class doesn’t care what most Americans think anyway.

That just goes to show that it's way past time, regarless of party, to vote them ALL OUT IN NOVEMBER!

WaPo ABC Poll: Most Americans Have No Faith In Obama

A new Washington Post/ABC poll shows that regard for The One has dipped to 40% approval rate.  That means that 60% don't approve of the job he's doing.  Trust in Congress is even lower with 70% disapproving of what they are doing. On the whole this poll is a scathing indictment on the Democratic Party's pursuit of it's socialist agenda.  With a large majority of those polled stating that they believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, the threat of a Mad Duck Congressional session in December, once Dem's lose control in November's  election is looming.

Democrats: The Sky Is Falling

In a major development on the liberal left, William Galston says that Stan Greenberg, an important left-wing pollster is predicting that at least 70 "battleground" Congressional Districts will go to the GOP this fall.  Mr. Greenburg's  analysis  has to be the most discouraging poll Democrats have seen in this election cycle.

He surveyed 1,200 likely voters in the 60 most competitive Democrat-held districts and ten most competitive Republican-held districts. In Tier 1 (the 30 most vulnerable Democratic districts), Democrats trailed by 48 to 39 overall. In Tier 2 (the 30 next most vulnerable districts), they trailed by 47 to 45. And in the contestable Republican districts, they trailed 53 to 39.

Here's a money quote from Galston: 

Earth to House Democrats: It’s time to push the panic button. But don’t take my word for it; consider the evidence...It’s too late to enact legislation that will actually affect the economy’s performance between now and November, but it may not be too late for Democrats to better align their agenda with the public’s economic concerns. And they could get lucky: The four remaining employment reports between now and the election might show accelerating job creation in the private sector and a more rapid decline in unemployment than we have seen thus far. That would give embattled incumbents the chance to argue—more credibly than they can now—that we’re on the right track and shouldn’t turn back.

From what I've seen in the past year, I think that a 70 seat gain in the House is, perhaps, conservative...

Generic Ballot: GOP 45% - Dem's 36%

Rasmussen Reports has a new poll out on how the parties stand today.  The GOP has made huge inroads while the Democratic Party continues it's slide...

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% would vote for their district's Republican congressional candidate, while 36% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. But support for both parties is down two points from last week. Still, since the beginning of the year, the Republican lead hasn't dipped below seven points.

Three weeks after Congress passed its new national health care plan, support for repeal of the measure has risen four points to 58%. That includes 50% of voters who strongly favor repeal. Also, 47% of voters believe repeal of the recently passed health care law will be good for the economy.

Come November, I won't be at all surprised to see the Democrats lose 100 seats in the House and 12 in the Senate.

Tea Party 48, Obama 44.

Scott Rasmussen has a new poll out showing that a more people support the Tea Party view than that of Barack Obama...

On major issues, 48% of voters say that the average Tea Party member is closer to their views than President Barack Obama. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 44% hold the opposite view and believe the president’s views are closer to their own.

Not surprisingly, Republicans overwhelmingly feel closer to the Tea Party and most Democrats say that their views are more like Obama’s. Among voters not affiliated with either major political party, 50% say they’re closer to the Tea Party while 38% side with the President.

This is supported in my own observations around my suburban Baltimore, MD area.  When I talk to people around Pikesville, I get pretty much the same response.  Mr. Obama ran a campaign as a moderate...and won large slices of moderates and independents...after the election he turned on those who elected and has attempted to implement policies that these small business people see as contrary to their interests.  My Congressional district is MD-3 and hasn't had a serious GOP challenger in 3 decades, now there are two.   These guys are running on an anti-government platform...reducing the size and scope of government and eliminating whole departments that really are nothing more than Democratic jobs programs as they really contribute nothing...

Gallup Poll, 50% Say Obama Doesn't Deserve Reelection

Mr. Obama's poll numbers have dropped significanlty over the past 15 months...Gallup for the first time has him over 50% opposing his reelection in 2012 for the first time.  Rasmussen has had this number for about 3 weeks now

...• Obama's standing on four key personal qualities, including being a strong and decisive leader and understanding the problems Americans face in their lives, has dipped. For the first time since the 2008 campaign, he fails to win a majority of people saying he shares their values and can manage the government effectively.

• Twenty-six percent say he deserves "a great deal" of the blame for the nation's economic problems, nearly double the number who felt that way last summer. In all, half say he deserves at least a moderate amount of blame. 
• By 50%-46%, those surveyed say Obama doesn't deserve re-election.

I expect of the next few months, once Cap & Trade (or cap and tax) is rammed through and "immigration reform" (i.e. another amnesty) is as well, that his numbers will fall even further.  Especially after this November's  election

Latest Gallup Presidential Poll

Gallups latest poll of Mr. Obama's approval rating has him dropping and additional 2 points  to an overall approval rating of 46%.  In other words more people disapprove of his performance than approve of him.  Here is what Bill Clinton had to say last summer,
