Study Shows Government Spending Slows Job Growth

A new research study by Harvard's Business school professors, Lauren Cohen, Joshua Coval, and Christopher Malloy shows that when government spends money in a Congressional district or state, that businesses stop growing. Imagine that, when your government spends money in your state business don't invest money in either capital improvements or in hiring new employees.

companies experienced lower sales and retrenched by cutting payroll, R&D, and other expenses. Indeed, in the years that followed a congressman's ascendancy to the chairmanship of a powerful committee, the average firm in his state cut back capital expenditures by roughly 15 percent, according to their working paper, "Do Powerful Politicians Cause Corporate Downsizing?"

"It was an enormous surprise, at least to us, to learn that the average firm in the chairman's state did not benefit at all from the unanticipated increase in spending," Coval reports.

Now, what effect did the "stimulus package" and the various bailouts have upon the economy as a whole? When the government, in a 5 month period spent a minimum of $1.5 trillion dollars to, first prop up failing corporations (banks, investment firms, and GM/Chrysler) and then in the hugely ineffective porkulus package, it literally sucked the life out of the credit industry by taking those funds that would have been used by business to grow and expand and sank it into long term government bonds. That had the effect of stifling the ability of small business and then the construction industry who need easily available credit in order to conduct day to day business operations.

Small business need credit for operating capital in order to purchase necessary materials. The construction industry does so even more...for example, a housing construction company (as well as commercial firms) need to borrow money to purchase materials to build homes...when that money is available in much smaller increments, fewer houses are built. It's the same for large construction firms as well. When you build/manufacture less, you need fewer workers...fewer workers mean fewer available jobs, that means less taxes are raised...smaller tax revenue means municipalities/counties/states have less money to operate on...

Their conclusion is simple. The government shouldn't spend money to stimulate the economy. Reducing taxes and the increase in available money for loans will...have a much more positive effect.

Our findings suggest that they should revisit their belief that federal spending can stimulate private economic development. It is important to note that our research ignores all costs associated with paying for the spending such as higher taxes or increased borrowing. From the perspective of the target state, the funds are essentially free, but clearly at the national level someone has to pay for stimulus spending. And in the absence of a positive private-sector response, it seems even more difficult to justify federal spending than otherwise.

Obama and the Oil Spill

That's from the NRSCC...my view of the Obama Administrations take on this is that there are so many people in the upper ranks of his administration that are from academia, lawyers, they have spent no time actually doing anything substantive. They've spent way too much time THINKING about how government runs, but have never actually done anything. Thinking about how government works is well and good if you're writing a book, or teaching a class, but the actual mechanics of running a government have very little to do with theories of how government operates...

What the real problem here is that Mr. Obama lacks genuine leadership ability. He's never, ever had to show it before in his life...and so he dithers. It took him 90+ days to make the simple decision to send more troops to Afghanistan, that after his senior military advisers took 6 months, at his direction, to come up with an effective plan. Then, because his liberal base balks at any military action, even in his own words, on the "good war", he slit the difference and approved 2/3's of the troops deemed necessary by his advisers.

This is not a man accustomed to leading, he's accustomed to criticizing, to harping and sniping, but not to actually lead anything. The only thing this man does well, is campaign...eventually he (I genuinely hope) will come to understand that campaigning isn't leadership...it's salesmanship. Mr. Bush was a far from perfect president, but he at least took responsibility for the actions of his administration. Mr. Obama has only played politics and attempted to shift blame for everything that has occurred on his watch to his predecessor.

Because he's not been the leader that the left has hoped for, some Democrats have become vocal in their newly found opposition to him. James Carville has been the moost vocal lately, but it took a horrendous oil spill in the Gulf for him to do so. Chris Mathews...of the "shiver down my leg" fame, has started to as well.

We'll see in the coming months, especially after the November elections, how much more vocal those Democrats become. If this fall's elections are as disasterous as some predict, I suspect that Mr. Obama will face opposition in the 2012 Democratic primaries...much as James Earl Carter did by the late Ted Kennedy, that led to Mr. Carter's "retirement by the electorate." (Carter's phrase for his ass-whipping by Ronald Reagan in 1980)

The other message I get from this administration is that they are very happy that the oil spill occured and, if not "purposely" dragging their feet for cleanup and capping efforts, are doing so, so as to show how harmful offshore drilling is. That being said, the damaged well is in 5,000 feet of water, because drilling closer in shore has been prohibited for decades. There are much more easily accessible fields on the continental shelf, but Congress, under pressure of enviromental groups has forbidden development of these areas since the early 1970's. Additionally, if something were to occur in these shallower waters, capping the well would be immensely less difficult to arrange...but, by making this disaster worse, they are encouraging their economically damaging "green agenda."

A Brief Message

Real Border Security, 18 Point Plan

The Arizona Cattlemen's association has developed and 18 point plan to institute genuine border security along the border with Mexico.

1. The judicial and law enforcement systems, which handle prosecution of these criminal activities, shall recognize and apply an enforcement mechanism that provides for the prosecution of illegally crossing into the U.S. over the Border, for the first time, as a felony barring any person from ever working or receiving residency visa status in the U.S. No exceptions.
2. Immediately deploy operational units of the U.S. Military to the Arizona/Mexico Border. Station overwhelming Border Patrol/Military blocking force denying illegal entry at the Border.
3. Establish permanent Forward Operating Bases (FOB) immediately adjacent to the U.S. border with Mexico. (Suggesting at least one FOB every 12 miles)
4. Overhaul and add teeth to the “Pursuit and Apprehension” policies for Law Enforcement to assure deterrence and protect U.S. residents and State authorities from potential harm. In the first instance, authorize the U.S. Military, Border Patrol, State and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies to use these beefed up policies to enforce existing laws.
5. Authorize the use of force in the interdiction of vehicles and aircraft illegally crossing the U.S. Mexico Border. Empower the Local Law Enforcement leaders to adjust policies to meet conditions on the ground and not rely only upon inflexible procedures preventing Border Security.
6. Enforce all existing immigration laws without exception. Streamline and expedite deportation of illegal aliens.
7. Add 3,000+ Arizona BP field agents by 2011. Assure additional incremental hardware is part of Field Agent deployment.
8. Increase County Law Enforcement permanent “Stonegarden Funding” for additional deputies and fully equipped 4 x 4 patrol vehicles.
9. Expedite 2010 deployment of new generation digital radio technology to Arizona and New Mexico Border Patrol.
10. Substantially increase Border Patrol Recon 3, MSS/Radar and FLIR mobile surveillance units and operators. Assure additional incremental agents are deployed to operate this hardware and technology.
11. Replace outdated Border Patrol Air & Marine Rotorcraft air support with contemporary rotorcraft and small single engine fixed wing. Deploy air support on/near the U.S. Border.
12. Establish mandatory Cellular coverage for remote non-service areas.
13. Equip Border Patrol and County Law Enforcement with GMRS “Rhino” GPS radios allowing homeowners and ranchers to communicate in remote areas.
14. Establish “No Seam” Wilcox/Douglas, Arizona and Lordsburg New Mexico Border Policy Corridor into its own Border Patrol Sector.
15.Increase and fund additional Arizona Horse Patrol Units.
16. Streamline federal claims process for recovering damages caused by illegal alien burglaries, vandalism and ranch infrastructure/livestock losses to include feed stock losses on both private & public lands (fires).
17. Adequately fund State and Federal Attorneys’ Offices to assure timely prosecutions of Border related offences. Stiffen 9th Circuit Appeals Court immigration and narcotics prosecutorial policies.
18. Measure Border Security success on the community via a monthly disclosure of all crimes, by title and code, committed and suspected to be committed by illegal alien activities which have conducted burglaries, home invasions, and ranching infrastructure/livestock losses. Establish operational transparency for Arizona residents of illegal alien and smuggling activity in their respective Border Patrol Sector and Communities to include County law Enforcement statistics and incidents.

Unfortunately, it will never be adopted by Congress because it's way too short and to the point. Congress loves big complicated expensive plans...that they can use to lard with pork and continue the politcal corruption that is ruining our country. It's a good plan and would probably work.

Another good plan that would work is to deploy very near/on the border a series of bases. These Forward Operating Bases would be effective at controlling any movement across the border. Even a Democratic Congresswoman agrees, as well as two Senators from New Mexico... It would work if implemented.

One current effective tactic is the utilization of Forward Observation Bases (FOB). These stations are situated right along the border and staffed with Border Patrol agents, who live at the bases for days at a time, using horses and ATVs to patrol the area.

Human traffickers and drug smugglers avoid these places. It works.

Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has written President Obama regarding building more FOBs on the border. She has also written to fellow Arizonan and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. New Mexico’s two U.S. senators, Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall — both Democrats — have also urged that more FOBs be built in the boot heel of New Mexico.

The pleas of all three have been met with silence.

This leads me to believe that the Democratic leadership in both the White House and Congress are not serious about either National Security, or securing the border. That sending 1,200 National Guard troopers to the border is nothing but window dressing and not meant to actually accomplish anything concrete. This is an issue that will only grow in importance as more time passes.

The fact that they have pushed at least 500k no votes is extraordinary. Go and vote! We have long since stopped teaching our children about what a great country this is, and this is merely another symptom of chipping away at the core values of what makes America a great country...

834b. (a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws.

(b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following:

(1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws.. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status.

(2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States.

(3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity.

(c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited.

Here's a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent inter-action between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a Metro station in DC. There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets, on the evils of America. I politely declined to take one.

The elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined. The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and, in a very soft voice, the young lady said, "Lady, don't you care about the children of Iraq?"

The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea, and a son in Vietnam. All three died so you could have the right to stand here and badmouth our country. If you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."

English/European Muslims Hate The West

Here is why England and western Europe have such a huge problem with their imported Muslim populations. These immigrants despise those countries they've moved to and despise the freedoms that are permitted there. These images are from a protest march recently in England...




















Muslims have been coddled to the point that if anyone critcizes any aspect about their faith they poor into the streets in rage. If Christians or Jews were to do this, they would be branded as racists and arrested under "hate speech" laws in Europe. So, why are Muslims allowed to get away with this? Because they are violent and murder those who "insult" them. That intimidates any who oppose them. If Jews or Christians were to do the same...there would be no art labeled "Piss Christ"...think about it...these people are taking your right to Freedom of Speech because they are "offended" by criticism of their religion.

Yet Another Little Noticed Provision Of Health Care Reform

In yet another little noticed provision of the recently passed health care law that will have the effect of stiffling job growth, small businesses , which have historically been the source of most jobs in this country, will now have little incentive to grow. The provisions found within the new law provides a 50% tax credit to those small companies offering health insurance coverage that employ less than 10 workers, and who on the average, earn less than $25,000 a year. This new tax credit is reduced on a sliding scale as more employees are hired.

“If a business can make a decision to substitute capital for labor – say, contract the procedure out or automate it – I believe [losing the tax credit] will play an important part in the reluctance to hire,” Villarreal said, adding, “It’s puzzling that we have this perverse incentive not to have businesses grow by not encouraging them to hire additional workers.”

This will have a very chilling effect upon small businesses that have been the engine for economic growth in America. That chilling effect will mean far fewer new hiring and far fewer jobs. Thanks Mr. Obama, thanks for killing off our chances of getting the economy back on track...or was that his objective after all?

So why weren't these noticed before? Because if the people of this country had been able to read this bill in it 3,000+ page entirety, there would have been an upsurge of anger that's not been seen before. That's why we get "little noticed" provisions and laws...then again, Major Media has begun to ban the word ObamaCare from usage. Jake Tapper of ABC has banned the use of the phrase from his blog.

It just goes to show you, as the popularity of this horrendous legislation continues to plummit, Democrats and Liberals alike will begin to strenuously object to the label ObamaCare...because they don't want The One to be linked so closely to this invasion of American rights.

Arizona Professor Booed for Criticizing New Arizona Immigration Law

Professor Sandra Soto Ph. D., an associate professor of gender and women’s studies at the University of Arizona got a rousing round of boos when she critizised SB 1070, the Arizona law requiring police officers in that state to check the immigration status of those whom they have stopped for whatever reason.  Dr. Soto mis charecterizes the law utterly.  She brings her preconceptions to what is required by the law and says,

“The new Arizona law generally known as SB 1070 is considered the strictest anti-immigrant legislation in the country and is explicitly intended to drive undocumented immigrants out of the state. One reason it has instigated a boycott is because to a whole lot of people, myself included, it appears to not only invite but require the police to engage in racial profiling.”

Which the law forbids specifically...but then, she IS a "women's studies" professor and thus has to blame someone for something...Here's video of her commencement address.

63% Support Repealing ObamaCare

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama told us that we'd learn to appreciate ObamaCare after it passed and was signed into law.  So far, that hasn't worked out too well.  A week or two ago, the Congressional Budget Office reported that it would cost an additional $115,000,000,000.00, above the roughly $850,000,000,000.00 the Democratically led Congress said it would.  Now, in a new poll, Rasmussen Reports finds that,

63% of U.S. voters now favor repeal of the plan passed by congressional Democrats and signed into law by President Obama in March.  Prior to today, weekly polling had shown support for repeal ranging from 54% to 58%.   Currently, just 32% oppose repeal.

That's the public at large.  On the other hand, our political masters are still insisting that its a good plan for the country,  despite all the conniving deals struck in those back rooms with unions giving them all sorts of tax exemptions on their plans, while the rest of us foot the bill.  So, the political class,

continues to be a strong supporter of the plan, however. While 67% of Mainstream voters believe the plan will be bad for America, 77% of the Political Class disagree and think it be good for the country.

Which I think contributes to the roughly 20% approval rating for Congress as a whole.  I think that they collectively are out of touch with American and it's time to vote all of them out of office.  The harm they're doing to the country is incalculable and will  take decades for us to recover.

SEIU Thugs Intimidate Bank Exec

SEIU Thugs are at it again.  Fresh off of last summers assaults on Tea Party attendees in St. Louis, Tampa and California, 500 purple shirted thugs used a page out of the Nazi Party's play book and assembled, with DC Police protection, on the lawn/front porch/yard of Bank of America executive, Greg Baer.  Nina Easton, the Washington DC bureau chief of Fortune magazine, in a report on the CNN website, is a neighbor and gives a first hand account of the mob assembled by SEIU. 

Waving signs denouncing bank "greed," hordes of invaders poured out of 14 school buses, up Baer's steps, and onto his front porch. As bullhorns rattled with stories of debtor calls and foreclosed homes, Baer's teenage son Jack -- alone in the house -- locked himself in the bathroom. "When are they going to leave?" Jack pleaded when I called to check on him.

Montgomery County Police, who responded after an HOUR...did nothing.  This was nothing but a blind attempt by SEIU to intimidate an organization that they owe some...

Complicating this picture is the fact that BofA is the union's lender of choice -- and SEIU, suffering financially, owes the bank nearly $4 million in interest and fees.  SEIU has said it wants to organize bank tellers and call centers -- and its critics point out that a great way to worsen employee morale, thereby making workers more susceptible to union calls, is to batter a bank's image through protest.

More importantly, BoA is the lender most often chosen by SEIU to fund it's facist methods.

By the end of 2008, SEIU owed more than $156 Million in total outstanding liabilities. Only six years prior, its liabilities were $8 Million. And we’re not even addressing their debts to other banks, like $15 Million with Amalgamated Bank.

So what is billed as an attempt to "protest a bank foreclosing on debtors" is in reality a bald action to intimidate the very bank to whom the union owes millions to.  Big Government's Liberty Chick says best, that,

"Perhaps all that campaigning for President Obama has emboldened the union to think that they deserve a free pass on their debts to Bank of America, and encouraged them to employ their usual thuggish shakedown tactics."

Now, what would you do if a mob descended upon your house, and your teenaged child as inside alone.  I'd be tempted to use my 2nd Amendment right to bare arms...and shoot as many as I could...because 500 people on your front lawn is a hell of a lot of people.  I'd be angry as hell the Montgomery County Police did NOT A DAMN THING! 

Maryland Police Say Its Illegal to Tape Them In Public

There's a debate that's beginning to heat up here in the Police State of Maryland.  Police officers here are telling people that it's illegal to tape them in public.  Unfortunately, it's permissible for police to tape YOU on their dashboard cameras.  However, several legal organizations say that's wrong,

"For the government to be saying it has the power to prevent citizens from doing that is profoundly shocking, troubling, and particularly in the case of Maryland, simply flat-out wrong," said David Roach, ACLU.

And then there's this,

"When you tell me to turn it off because it's against the law, you've proven to me that I'm not secretly taping you," said law professor Byron Warnken. "He doesn't have the right to say, if you don't stop recording me, I'm going to arrest you."

Delegate Sandy Rosenberg, D-Dist 41, Baltimore City, is pushing the Maryland Attorney General to render an opinion on whether or not it's "permissible", as if an AG can say you have a right that's already implied under the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, and has been ruled such in a number of states already.  But if the AG advises otherwise, Mr. Rosenberg plans to introduce legislation the specifically permits such recordings in public of public officials.

The Hill Says Rand Paul Won't Appear on Meet the Press

Rand Paul will appear on NBC's "Meet the Press" despite an assertion otherwise, by The Hill

Rand Paul (R) canceled his upcoming appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," according to multiple reports.

Unfortunately for them, those "multiple reports" come from the DNC, Kentucky Democratic Party, DSCC and Mr. Paul's opponent...not from either himself or his campaign.  His senior staff has been spending all day today preparing him for the appearance. 

While Mr. Paul made an idiotic appearance with Rachel MadCow (Maddow) on the Democratic propoganda network known as MSNBC as well as a dense speach on the Civil Rights Act, he is the better of the two candidates who remain in the Kentucky Senate race.

Obama's Hypocrisy...Part 902

Barack Obama as stridently criticized one of the constituent states of this nation (Arizona) for having the termerity to criticize the national government for not securing the borders of this country.  Arizona passed a law that enables and requires a law enforcement officer to inquire into the citizenship or green card status of individuals who are stopped for any lawful reason.   Many have criticized this law, among them Barack Obama, our president, Eric Holder, the Attorney General and Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security, yet have admitted to not having read the 10 page law...that law in part reads,

For any lawful stop, detention, or arrest made by a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency of this state or a law enforcement official or a law enforcement agency of a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state in the enforcement of any other law or ordinance of a county, city or town or this state where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien and is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person, except if the determination may hinder or obstruct an investigation.

No, Mr. Obama is going to Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan to shake hands with every graduating senior... BUT,

Seniors are being asked to provide their birthdates, Social Security numbers and citizen status to the Secret Service so background checks could be performed. Such a check is required for anyone who gets within an arm’s length of the president, students were told at their senior breakfast Friday.

  ...but he doesn't want Arizona police to do so when they stop someone for any lawful reason to do...yet another example of why "progressives" (the don't like the term "liberal" any more since it has now taken on so many negative connotations) are at heart hypocrits.  That's after Democrats in Congress gave Mexican President Calderon a standing ovation when he called upon Congress to void the Arizona law...this despite the fact that Mexican Illegal Immigration law is much tough than American. 

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.   The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," violate Mexican law, are not "physically or mentally healthy" or lack the "necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents.

More importantly, Mr. Calderon denied this fact when interviewed by  Wolf Blitzer on CNN propaganda network,   

BLITZER: So if people want to come from Guatemala or Honduras or El Salvador or Nicaragua, they want to just come into Mexico, they can just walk in?
CALDERON: No. They need to fulfill a form. They need to establish their right name. We analyze if they have not a criminal precedent. And they coming into Mexico. Actually …
BLITZER: Do Mexican police go around asking for papers of people they suspect are illegal immigrants?
CALDERON: Of course. Of course, in the border, we are asking the people, who are you?  And if they explain …
BLITZER: At the border, I understand, when they come in.
CALDERON: Yes.
BLITZER: But once they’re in …
CALDERON: But not — but not in — if — once they are inside the — inside the country, what the Mexican police do is, of course, enforce the law. But by any means, immigration is a crime anymore in Mexico.
BLITZER: Immigration is not a crime, you’re saying?
CALDERON: It’s not a crime.
BLITZER: So in other words, if somebody sneaks in from Nicaragua or some other country in Central America, through the southern border of Mexico, they wind up in Mexico, they can go get a job …
CALDERON: No, no.
BLITZER: They can work.
CALDERON: If — if somebody do that without permission, we send back — we send back them.
BLITZER: You find them and you send them back?
CALDERON: Yes. However, especially with the people of Guatemala, we are providing a new system in which any single citizen from Guatemala could be able to visit any single border (INAUDIBLE) in the south. And even with all the requirements, he can or she can visit any parts of Mexico.

So...as you can read for yourself...the Democratic party and their media enablers are charecterizing the Arizona law as something it isn't and attempting to whitewash history and Mexican corruption in a far different light.  As I said in the post title hypocrisy...

Reading Is Fundamental...To Understand A Law

Here's a new video from Governor Jan Brewer of Arizona...basically, if you read the law, instead of  reacting to the negative mainstream media's propagandizing you would understand that it's not at all what it's been charectorized to be...so don't be a stupid lemming and run with the media masses, read the damn thing.  It's only 10 pages long.

Claiming to have not read it allows them to speak of vaguely-defined "concerns" without having to point out specific language in the bill they object to -- because if they did the latter, they'd be unable to find anything illegal here.

What they're attempting to do is claim they support, of course, the substance of the bill -- of course they agree with enforcing the border! -- while pretending their objection is over procedural matters. This pose allows them to pretend for the 70% of the country that supports the bill that they're on their side, at least as regards the big substantive goal of the bill.

Mexico's "Fair" Treatment of Illegal Immigrants

Mexico's President, has slammed Arizona for it's recent law on illegal immigration...that's from a country that has far harsher laws than we do here.  Here are a few of their regulations: 

• An illegal immigrant who sneaks into the country, or fails to file his papers, will face fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the three.
• An illegal immigrant who forges his documents, or falsifies them by lying when he fills them out, will face fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the three.
• An illegal immigrant who takes a job faces fines, up to six years in prison, and deportation.
• All immigrants must provide proof of their legal status if the authorities demand it. Failure to do so will result, once more, in fines, jail, deportation, or a combination of the three

But of course...they'd never ever do as we here do...

Government Efficiency

Always thought our government was efficient?  Did you ever really wonder why the America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009 ran almost 3,000 pages...here's why.  The government recipe to make a brownie is 26 pages long! 

3.3.2 Brownie preparation. (NOTE: The contractor is not required to follow the exact procedure shown below provided that the brownies conform to all finished product requirements in 3.4.)

a. Whip eggs in large bowl on high speed until light and fluffy.
b. Combine sugars, cocoa, salt, and leavening; add to beaten eggs, and whip on high speed until thick.
c. Add shortening slowly while mixing on low speed.
d. Scrape bowl and whip on high speed until thick.
e. Mix flour, nuts, and flavors together and fold into batter; mix until uniform.
f. Pour batter into pan at a rate that will yield uncoated brownies which, when cut such as to meet the dimension requirements specified in 3.4f, will weigh approximately 35 grams each. (Experimentally, a panning rate of 14 to 16 grams per square inch was used.)
g. Bake at 350F until done (30 to 45 minutes).
3.3.3 Brownie cutting. The brownies shall be cut to the appropriate size when cool (see 3.4f).

How in the hell can you expect the people who write this shit...to ever do  ANTHING efficiently?

While Mexico's President is lecturing us on our illegal immigration problem, which his country created in the first place with it's endemic political corruption, Mexican Drug Cartels have  begun to invade American territory...something the Obama Administration isn't  prepared to do anything about.  But that asside, this is a frightening development that we need to crush immediately.

North Korea Threatens War...Again

Reuters is reporting that North Korea is threatening to attack South Korea...whose frigate, the NK's sank last week.  I hope that this is bombast, as NK tends to do something violent in order to deflect attention away from it's true intention...which I believe is to continue to develop a capable delivery system for it's nuclear weaspons program. 

Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in a predictably mealy-mouthed statement said...nothing.

"We cannot allow this attack on South Korea to go unanswered by the international community," Clinton said after talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada.  "So, we will determine our best options and send a clear, unmistakable message to North Korea regarding the international community's and most particularly, its neighbors' concerns about its behavior."  Clinton did not specify what sort of international action she would like to see.

Which means that we will "engage" NK in pointless talks that will lead nowhere.

Illegal Immigrant Highway

I have posted many times before that I am strongly in favor of securing our southern border. But here are some pictures from the Sonoran Desert...one of the most beautiful places on earth. Much of it is protected land that is extremely fragile. Here are some photographs that show the damage that illegal immigrants and the "coyotes" that bring them north from Mexico are doing to this land mark.

This is just one small corner of the border region in Arizona...and is a large reason why Arizona Legislature decided to act...because the Federal Government has abdicated its responsiblity by systematically ignoring this huge problem.  The damage being done to the environment is incalculable. 

The only way to prevent this is to build a secure, sustainable border barrier.  It has already been shown that illegals are avoiding those portions of the barrier/fence that has been constructed to date.  By finishing the fence, we can then begin work on a sustainable "guest worker program."

Rand Paul...is Finished

Rand Paul, who just won the GOP nomination to the US Senate seat in Kentucky recently made some stupid comments on an MSNBC interview with the MadCow, Rachel Madow.  Going into the next of the journalistic enemy was a very dumb thing to do.  But worse still,

He'll be on "Meet the Press", this coming Sunday. David Gregory, the host, has instructions to destroy Paul.

Unfortunately, that's not the worst of it.  He's given new energy to the "conventional wisdom" that the Tea Party are all racist assholes.  Bu even worse, he's given the movement a "black eye" that will be used to tar it in the coming months. 

But many more of the Tea Party endorsed candidates who will gain visibility in the congressional campaign in coming months will, like Paul, be making their first-ever foray in seeking elective office. Like babes, they will go into brutal hand-to-hand combat with Establishment GOP, then Democratic opponents and their sympathetic journos, all of whom are seasoned veterans.

Thanks Rand...my advise to you is DONT GO ON MEET THE PRESS!!!  You are not a national candidate yet, nor do you have the necessary experience to do well yet.  While you may very well be smarter than your father, you don't have the experience yet, to deal with these assholes.  Doing so will only destroy what's left of your candidacy.

One reader thinks I'm crazy for posting these today, but I firmly  believe in freedom of speech.  That means that you have to allow even people you DONT agree with the freedom to promulgate their ideas...because that's what Freedom of Speech means.  EVERYONE gets to say what they think, you DONT have the right to be offended in this country.  If you don't like what someone says on TV, change the channel or turn if off...if you're out in the street, walk on by...but you can't shut them out of the debate, because in that direction lies...tyranny and oppression. 

Today, the Pakistanni government has shut off access to Youtube and Facebook to "protect" it's people from any cartoons...that's really sad.  I guess they're not grown up enough in Pakistan to allow their people to see what the rest of the world thinks of their infatile angry reactions.

Food Czars

It seems that in recent days, the cause du jour of the left is nutrition and obesity. This has become the bugbear over the past several years. It seems to have started with the silly documentary, "Supersize It." But it has come to the forefront most recently, when her highness, Michelle Obama chose "obesity" as her cause to pursue as First Lady of the United States. She is, in a phrase, the national "Food Czar"...if not de facto...


This cause has now spilled over into a whole host of areas, but most significantly on the restaurant industry. First, trans-fats were banned from use. While that isn't wholly a bad thing, it does spill from the public sector into the home. Most importantly, it has altered how many restaurants cook as many of the oils that contain large amounts of trans-fats are those that are the cheapest.

At its worst, this is nannyism (or statism if you will). Because the state has begun to heavily regulate not just what we eat, but how we eat. It has become fashionable for municipalities and counties to appoint "Food Czars"...as if in this time of floundering economic means, installing yet another layer of bureaucracy is not something we can afford.

Locally, here in Baltimore, the City Council, decided that we too need a "Food Czar" regardless of whether or not the ridiculous salary being paid to Holly Freishtat, as well as her newly created staff was a necessary expense.

City officials said they are going into senior high-rises and to neighborhood associations to actively promote the service, which was launched with $60,000 in federal stimulus money.

After all, the Mayor has been forced to close at least one precinct and lay off several dozen police officers as well as reducing the numbers of firefighters. Yet, we MUST HAVE someone to tell us how to eat, RIGHT NOW!

It's not just Baltimore, Maryland that has jumped into the fray. Mayor Bloomberg of New York City has recently forced nearly all food manufacturers to change not just recipes, but manufacturing processes because of a City mandated reduction of 25% in the use of salt. This is where I draw the line. Worst of all, Mr. Bloomberg has forced Heinz to alter its justifiably world famous and iconic brand of Ketchup to meet the new city guidelines.

Enough is enough. Mr. Bloomberg get out of my kitchen and KEEP YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF MY KETCHUP!!!

This past Tuesday, some voters spoke, and since then I have the opportunity to sit back and listen to the post mortem analysis. A quick recap shows that the voters are, in my opinion, completely dissatisfied with the way the elected ones are running our country.

Let me see if I have my facts straight: recently Sen. Bennett from Utah, Sen. Specter from Penna., were thrown out of office while Sen. Lincoln from Ark., was denied a clear way to seek the opportunity of reelection in the Fall. Rand Paul in Ky. overwhelmingly was the victor over the party choice and Sen. Scott Brown is now the upstart victor in Mass.

Gov. Bob McDonnell defeated Creigh Deeds and is now the governor in Va., while Chris Christie beat Jon Corzine in New Jersey – neither were given a chance and not expected to capture the prize – yet both sit in their respective governor’s mansions,

In watching the political pundits, it is amusing to hear their analysis of these “facts.” The spin makes for poor Kabuki drama, yet the cable networks broadcast their worthless crap as if it were “in depth analysis.”

The two most foolish self described “commentators” that come to mind are Edward Rendell, the governor of Penna., and Paul Begala, the democrat pollster. After watching them pontificate and rationalize, I can only come to the conclusion that life is a mystery to these two individuals.

Rendell, on air, claimed that the only reason Specter lost was because of the inclement weather in the state of Pennsylvania, while Begala said in reality, it was a great victory for the democrats – because their party captured the John Murtha's district in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

I have no idea where these two bozos are purchasing their recreational drugs of choice, but if I ever find out, I too want to soar into space, for about an hour, and completely ignore reality. Apparently the Tea Party movement has been completely ignored.

The original Boston Tea Party was a radical statement that needed to be said. The Boston Tea Party was a direct action by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government.. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and other political protests often refer to it.

I can only assume that if cable TV was around then, the commmentators would refer to those men involved as a bunch of rag-tagged farmers, trying to intimidate and antoganize the British Monarchy.

The organizers of the modern Tea Party movement are just as committed – with the exception there are no riots in the streets or the massive firing of weapons in the pursuit of justice. Of course, cable TV commentators would love that, since it would give them something to report – rather than speculate.

To ignore these tea party activists, in my opinion, is to commit political suicide and the day will come when America will look back in retrospect and wonder why the dunderheads in power couldn’t see it coming.

I can’t wait until the November 2010 elections and I will savor every day until that event. I want to watch the incumbents squirm and twist in the wind. May all the windbags suffer defeat.

Good Bye Arlen...and Good Riddance

The weasel Arlen Specter, who jumped parties because he couldn't beat his GOP challenger, was decisively defeated by retired Admiral Joe Sestak, 53% to 47%.  Sestak, who had a distinguished military career prior to entering politics was offered the Secretary of the Navy Job by Barack Obama...if he didn't run for the US Senate seat held by the now departing Mr. Specter...but the spin is (by Gov Ed Rendell) that the "rain hurt Mr. Specter's chance to win..." Yeah right.  The Dem's didn't want the weasel any more than the GOP did.

Another also ran is Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas who is falling behind her main challenger in an attempt to retain her seat in the Senate.  Bill Halter is leading with 43% of the vote, Lincoln has 40% and D.  C. Morris is trailing a distant 3rd at 18%...So, Blanche is forced into a run-off in which it's likely she'll lose.  After all, she's been in the Senate for a while, and so far 61% of her constiuents have voted AGAINST HER!

So, all in all, with Rand Paul winning and Arlen losing and Blanche in a run off...it's been a pretty good night.

Rand Paul Wins GOP Nomination in KY Senate Race

Rand Paul has won by a comfortable margin against the estalishment's pick, Trey Greyson...the Tea Party was his margin of victory in that race.  Conventional wisdom is that he has inherited much information from his father, Ron Paul, (R-TX), but as a good friend of mine who has worked on his campaign for the past several months tells me, that just isn't so.  His campaign manager had previously worked on a successful county commission campaign, and Rand had never run for anything, nor worked to any significant extent on his father's campaigns...

At this time, Rand has 59% of the vote to 37% for Mr. Greyson...a significant hammering if these numbers continue to hold...

Los Angeles To Boycott Arizona Products

The Los Angeles City Commission has voted, with the support of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.  This means that the city is no longer permitted to purchase products produced in Arizona.  Unfortunately, the dolts on the LA city commission didn't think about was they get 25% of their electricity from Arizona.  Now, one of the
commissioners for the state utility regulation commission who is chosen in state-wide elections, Gary Pierce, has sent the following letter to the City of Los Angeles: 

Dear Mayor Villaraigosa,


I was dismayed to learn that the Los Angeles City Council voted to boycott Arizona and Arizona-based companies — a vote you strongly supported — to show opposition to SB 1070 (Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act).

You explained your support of the boycott as follows: “While we recognize that as neighbors, we share resources and ties with the State of Arizona that may be difficult to sever, our goal is not to hurt the local economy of Los Angeles, but to impact the economy of Arizona. Our intent is to use our dollars — or the withholding of our dollars — to send a message.” (emphasis added)

I received your message; please receive mine. As a state-wide elected member of the Arizona Corporation Commission overseeing Arizona’s electric and water utilities, I too am keenly aware of the “resources and ties” we share with the City of Los Angeles. In fact, approximately twenty-five percent of the electricity consumed in Los Angeles is generated by power plants in Arizona.

If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation. I am confident that Arizona’s utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands. If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona’s economy.

People of goodwill can disagree over the merits of SB 1070. A state-wide economic boycott of Arizona is not a message sent in goodwill.

Personally, I'd love to see Arizona power companies cut off LA...there are incipient power shortages in California as it is...just how happy will the people be when they are hot, and in the dark, because their local political leaders decided to make a stupid point, that California law already mandates their own police do.  But what is really amusing about the whole thing, is that California Penal Code requires police in the State of California to do EXACTLY THE SAME THINGS AS THE ARIZONA LAW!  Here is the pertinent excerpt of Section 834b in the California Penal Code

(a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws. (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following: (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status. (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States. (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity. (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly prohibited.

So is Los Angeles going to boycott the state of California for impinging upon the (non)rights of illegal aliens?
