Disabled WW2 Vet Faces Eviction

A disabled World War II and Korean War veteran, faces eviction.  Freddie Mac refuses to return his phone calls.

“I worried. You can’t sleep at night. With my husband being disabled, you try to go on with things as normal as you can. And keep my husband and my daughter, who is mentally handicapped, as stable as can be,” said Sally Scott.

That stability vanished with an eviction notice from Freddie Mac, the giant home loan lender that was bailed out by taxpayers to the tune of $120 billion.

“I haven’t been able to get hold of Freddie Mac. And basically, SPS, the loan servicer, said if you can get Freddie Mac to rescind the foreclosure, we’ll work something out with them,” Sally stated.  

FOX 2 also tried to contact Freddie Mac about the Scott’s foreclosure. No one got back to us. So Sally Scott turned to community groups to try and stop the foreclosure.
“Not only Freddie Mac, but other large banking institutions, I mean, they would not be around if it weren’t for our tax dollars,” said Zach Chasnoff with Missourians Organizing for Reform. “And you know, I think it’s important that they don’t take that for granted.” 

So far, Freddie Mac won’t budge.

But, they can't get Freddie Mac  to return their calls.  If you remember, Freddie Mac was bailed out with hundreds of billions of dollars of tax payer money yet, they are going to evict a disabled veteran?  That's plain bullshit.

Dept of Labour Censoring Journalists?

The Federal Dept of Labour announced on Friday that it would limit the number of journalists who were given access to information.  For decades, journalists have arrived in DOL and entered the limited access area for the official release of information.  The Washington Times is reporting that there is a huge exception to this,

But Carl Fillichio, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis’ top communications advisor, circulated a memo earlier this week to interested media informing them that everybody is being required to re-submit their credentials requests.
Fillichio reminded participants that there are only 20-30 seats available for the lockups and that priority will be given by DOL in selecting participants to those that “are primarily journalistic enterprises.”

He also offered a one-sentence assurance that “the department will not consider editorial or political viewpoints in making credentialing decisions.” 

Whatever grumbling might be occasioned by being forced to go through the credentialing process again, the element of the Fillichio memo that has journalists worried is this paragraph:
“Second, as a measure toward enhancing security in its main lockup facility (the DOL news room), the department will supply and maintain standardized equipment with a standard configuration for all participants. This change means that privately owned computer and telephone equipment, including hardware, software, cabling, wiring and Internet and telephone lines will be replaced with equipment owned by the department.”

 This may be the first instance of government bureaucrats effectively shielding an administration from bad news since the institution of civil service reform in the late 19th Century.  If this is in fact the case, it's a subversion of a branch of the government by a political party for it's own gain.  That's very ominous for the future.  What it means is that,

“Delays will make it more difficult for independent analysts to understand the new data and could give White House and DOL political appointees more time to blunt the impact of the negative news resulting from the data.”

That means that bad news will not be disseminated nearly as fast as is currently the case.  Furthermore, by actively attempting to slow they news cycle, it in effect it is the repoliticization of government civil service.  If the GOP wins both the White House and Senate this fall, they can expect  that the civil service will begin to "passively-aggressively" to work against any policies they  may attempt to institute.

If the GOP were to do something similar to this, the MSM would be screaming to high heaven about how "those evil conservatives" were attempting to subvert or politicize the government bureaucracy.

Once upon a time

the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.   Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night."  So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?"  So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?"  So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"  So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?" So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back."  So they laid-off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter.

Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY..... during the Carter Administration?

Bottom line is, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency....the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

33 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.
NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Maryland Shuts Down Lemonaide Stand @ US Open

The US Open is being held here in Maryland this year.  But, as a hugely blue nanny state, where "government always knows best" how to care for us, a child's Lemonaide Stand was closed by the county health department and fined $500.00.  With all the probblems facing us today, a lemonaide stand is the least of our worries, unless of course you're a liberal, then a child's attempt at free enterprise is a public threat.

Census Bureau Rejects Form

The U.S. Census Bureau sent my Census form back. In answer to the question, 'Do you have any dependents?', I replied ...... 'Asylum seekers, illegal immigrants, crack heads, unemployable bastards, the audience and cast of The Jerry Springer Show, 3,000,000 people in penal establishments in the United States, leftovers in Texas from Katrina, half of Mexico, along with some of the Congress, and a freaking Muslim President!'


Apparently this was not an acceptable answer.

Coyote Problem 2011

From a reader in Wyoming:

The green weenies never quite get it.  Now I have a better understanding of the coyote issues.

The Sierra Club and the U.S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to the Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population. It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true method of shooting or trapping the predators, the Sierra Club had a "more humane" solution to this issue.

What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was actually proposed by the Sierra Club and by the U.S. Forest Service. All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes.

Finally an old fellow in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said; "Son, I don't think you understand our problem here . . . these coyotes ain't fuckin' our sheep . . . they're eatin' 'em!"

The meeting never really got back to order

In January 1993, idle regulators at the FCC belatedly discover the burgeoning world of online services. Led by CompuServe, MCI Mail, AOL, GEnie, Delphi, and Prodigy, these services have been embraced by the computer-owning public. Users "log on" to communicate via "e-mail" and "chat rooms," make online purchases and reservations, and tap information databases. Their services are "walled gardens" that don't allow the users of one service to visit or use another. The FCC declares that because these private networks use the publically regulated telephone system, they fall under the purview of the Communications Act of 1934. The commission announces forthcoming plans to regulate the services in the "public interest, convenience, and necessity."


The FCC ignores the standalone Internet because nobody but academics, scientists, and some government bodies go there. So do the online services, which don't offer Internet access.

"Regulating the Internet would make as much sense as regulating inter-office mail at Michigan State University," says the FCC chairman. "The online services are the future of cyberspace."


The online companies protest and vow to sue the FCC, but the heavily Democratic Congress moots the suits by passing new legislation giving the commission oversight of the online world.

The FCC immediately determines that the lack of interoperability among the online systems harms consumers and orders that each company submit a technical framework by January 1994 under which all online companies will unify to one shared technology in the near future. The precedent for this are the technical standards that the FCC has been setting for decades for AM and FM, and for television. The online services threaten legal action again, and again Congress passes new legislation authorizing the FCC to do as it wishes. The online companies hustle to submit a technical framework. Microsoft wants in on the game, so it persuades the FCC to extend the framework deadline to July 1995.

Meanwhile in Switzerland, Tim Berners-Lee has invented the first Internet browser—"WorldWideWeb," he calls it. The Internet continues to creep along on campuses as a marginalized academic/scientific network used mostly for e-mail. A college student at the University of Illinois named Marc Andreessen helps write a more sophisticated graphical browser, which is released to little fanfare in 1993. When Andreessen leaves his graduate school program, he can't get a job in his field of computer sciences and takes a position as a night manager at a Taco Bell. He spends his spare time repairing broken Macintoshes.

 READ THE WHOLE THING.  The only things government regulation does is to strangle business.  If the FCC had grabed control of the internet in 1993...the above scenario is very well what could have happened.  It can still happen with the FCC at the helm....
