Lawyers should never ask a Texan grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer. The moral of the story? "Never ask a question you don't already know the answer to..." Most people think lawyers are smart...but here's plenty of evidence that they can be just as stupid as the rest of us.
In a trial, a small town Texas prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Howard. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'
The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'
She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Lindquist since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'
The defense attorney nearly died.
The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,
'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair.'

Antonin Scalia Is Right
Scalia is right, there are too many lawyers, too many laws and we as a country are strangling under the resulting regulatory burden.
Bill Shakespeare was right in Henry II,
“First we kill all the lawyers…”
Seriously though, common sense is something often bereft in WashDC as well as the various state capitals. Try reading our Constitution some time…they didn’t need gobs of regulatory language to make a point. Then compare our Constitution to that of the proposed EU constitution, hundreds of pages of legalese that over regulates everything and anything...point proven
I mean lawyers, after all, don’t produce anything. They enable other people to produce and to go on with their lives efficiently and in an atmosphere of freedom. That’s important, but it doesn’t put food on the table and there have to be other people who are doing that. And I worry that we are devoting too many of our very best minds to this enterprise.
