More than 15 million people are now unemployed, according to the Labor Department. The 9.8 percent jobless rate in September was the highest since 1983. The rate in Michigan was 15.3 percent; for blacks nationally it was 15.4 percent. If you include people who have settled for part-time work or given up the search, the national rate is 17 percent. One-third of all workers will be jobless at some point this year. And the number of long-term unemployed is setting records: Nearly 36 percent of all those without jobs have been out of work for six months or more. In human terms, that's 5.4 million people.

Of course, the anti-business Democratic controlled Congress hasn't the brains to take that option. No, what they'll do is try to pass a massive tax increase under the aegis of "health insurance reform." That tax increase will hit those making less than $75,000.00 per year hardest, by tripling the cost of health insurance. Additionally, Congress will make everything more expensive by passing a Value Added Tax in order to pay for it. When you throw in "Cap & Trade" which will add roughly $1,800.00 per year per household for electricity...the economy will come to a screeching halt. Unemployment will reach 25% and we will see a severe recession turn into a full blown depression. Death knell to economic recovery. It will finish off what they've begun then demand emergency powers to sieze yet more areas of the economy.

Not Evil, Just Wrong

Just watched the film "Not Evil, Just Wrong" on http://ustream.tv. Very good documentary. An inconvenient truth is that the hottest year in the past several hundred years was in 1934, while 5 of the 10 hottest years are in the same decade.

Ann McElhinney in the discussion that follows the screening, makes the point the the "Green" movement is a new "religion" in the making. That many of the most fervent members of the "green" movement are replacing religion with "environmentalism".

Many excellent points. I hope that many more people will watch the documentary. Basically, I think that Al is wrong, and the only reason that he began pushing "global warming" is that he owns large amounts of stock in the three largest carbon offset/trading companies. Therefore, it's in his own interest to push global warming/climate change

John Fund is making the point that with the "Cap & Trade" Bill effectively dead in Congress, that the green movement will use the EPA to bureaucratically enact "rules" that will make carbon dioxide a "pollutant" and therefore "regulate" it's "production" as being illegal...now that's the thought that scares the shit out of me. Congress ceding it's regulatory powers to "do-gooder" bureaucrats.

Most of all... Don't forget the "Al Gore Effect" wherein it's guaranteed to snow where ever Al makes an appearance. One more point. In the film, one of the people interviewed at the airport made the comment that she flies commercial air with hundreds of other people on the same plane. That plane carrying all those people only has a marginally larger "carbon footprint" than the private jets Al flies...

When those people who are telling me that there is a crisis, actually ACT like there is a crisis, then I'll be a little more willing to make radical changes in my lifestyle. On the other hand, if they continue to live their selfishly hedonistic life styles, ones that inimical to that which they preach, then DON'T THROW STONES, Al!
