(b) TAXABLE MEDICAL DEVICE.—For purposes of this section— (1) IN GENERAL.—The term "taxable medical device" means any device (as defined in section 201(h) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act) intended for humans. (2) EXEMPTIONS.—Such term shall not include— (A) eyeglasses, (B) contact lenses, (C) hearing aids, and (D) any other medical device determined by the Secretary to be of a type which is generally purchased by the general public at retail for individual use. From the CampaignSpot, National Review Online,

Scott Murphy: Every time you use a suppository, think of his health-care vote.
Reader Clare Toohey emails: “How is being a woman ‘no longer a pre-existing condition’ if our monthlies need treatment with a ‘medical device?’” You’ll have to address those questions to the White House. But maybe this explains why the Tea Party is majority-female. . . .But, when it's all said and done...Democrats now OWN government's control of health care. Everytime you have to wait a long time to get an appointment of any kind, anytime you have to wait longer in ER's...it will be Obama's fault.
Are ObamaCare supporters arguing for the plan's merits on better footing now than before the bill was passed? They sure seem to think so. But when reality starts to sink in on the health care bill—reality that's likely to include an endless onslaught of court challenges and tough campaign rhetoric as well as the eventual imposition of a health insurance mandate and significantly higher taxes for millions of Americans—how long will any post-vote opinion bump last?UPDATE: Is it just me, or does the concept of satire escape certain people?

Yeah, put a levy on tampons! They will probably call it a Ko-tax.
(Stolen from a forgotten source)
Just wait--the insanity will just get piled higher and deeper.
A "Ko-Tax"? (groan...)
That was blatant hard-corn pun-ography! LOL!
Hey Donald, that's OK, we'll be here all week, be sure and tip your waitress and also try the veal. Bad-a-boom!
Hey Donald, it was my pleasure. We'll be here all week and don't forget to tip your server and try the veal--it's great!
Did you miss this part?
"(D) any other medical device determined by the Secretary to be of a type which is generally purchased by the general public at retail for individual use."
Quit ragging on Obama.
I knew there would be strings attached to this bill!
Of course... never mind the fact that there has always been sales tax on tampons.
But don't worry about such a small detail.

Well, duh, there's always been a sales tax...but it is now classified as a "medical device"...and is thus taxable further. Government will never give up a tax once instituted.
Seriously, this article is a lie. Anything generally purchased at the retail level by the public for individual use is excluded from the tax.

Reading comprehension fail?
Did you completely miss the "any other medical device determined by the Secretary" part?
For the special children in the class: IF the Secretary "determines" it, THEN it may be exempt from additional taxation - NOT BY DEFAULT.
Jesus Christ. Public education at work.

Tampons fall into the category D, below:
"Such term shall not include— (A) eyeglasses, (B) contact lenses, (C) hearing aids, and (D) any other medical device determined by the Secretary to be ofa type which is generally purchased by the general public at retail for individual use."
So.. not taxable medical devices.
