AP Publishes Photograph of Dying Marine
From www.blackfive.com comes a report that the AP has published a photograph of a US Marine dying in Afghanistan. Here is a copy of my email to the Thomas Curly, president of AP:
Why in G-d's green earth would you publish a photograph of an American dying? Are you stupid? Do you hate this country and those who serve so much that you basically don't give a flying f*** what people think? I used to have a great deal of respect for the AP, but this goes too far. Like all journalists, and I use that particular word with contempt, you have no ethics nor concerns for those who have lost family members. Think how far your profession has fallen in esteem. This is why it has.
As a former US Marine I am utterly disgusted by the AP. They have gone directly against the wishes of the family, the Marine's father specifically requested that the photograph not be published. SecDef Gates urged that it not be published but the AP decided to just go ahead and do so anyway. I am deeply angry, and urge any and all who read this to contact the AP and voice your concerns:
